Day 145 of 365 by Neil Evans Via Flickr: White's Ferry. At one time there were reportedly 100 ferries that crossed the Potomac River. Now, there is just one and here it is! Historic White's Ferry. Connecting the Montgomery County, Maryland with Loudon County, Virginia. The ferry has been in operation since 1782. It runs on a fixed cable stretched across the Potomac and the boat is named for a Confederate offcer, Gen. Jubal A. Early. The ferry carries ~24 cars each journey and takes around 5 minutes to traverse the river. [May 24, 2016]
