December 23, 2017 - White-tailed Jay (Cyanocorax mystacalis)
These jays are found only in southwestern Ecuador and northwestern Peru. They mostly eat beetles, ants, and other insects, along with some seeds and grains. Their breeding season may begin in February or March, when they probably build their nests in large trees. Although they are classified as a species of Least Concern by the IUCN, their population is suspected to be decreasing due to destruction of their woodland habitats.
