(White Royal)
Leeds based ambient pop trio White Royal (Joshua Hobson + Jonty Brown & Thomas Balmforth) create an atmospheric and euphoric soundscape of dreamy sound and confident vocals with their track Notice. At the moment the fellas are at work on their debut LP so we can expect more music from them shortly!
Lists Rule Everything Around Me
Hello. Been a while since i posted anything about anything. I mean we only have 5 followers but i do value you all. And if you are reading this and have tumblr why don't you follow me/us. We don't post enough for it to be annoying. Or good. So 2014 you have been very strange to me. We only gave you 4 songs and 8 gigs yet you have given us a record deal. Great reviews. Great amount of plays. A year highlight was most def live at leeds, it was one of the best days of this year for many reasons. The gig was greatly received and there was loads of people there. I dont really remember it because a week previous i had broken my knee cap and was up to my eyeballs on Fosters and tramadol. I had to turn down an operation to play the gig, stupid musicians. The day then persisted into madness. Seeing forward russia again was a personal treat. I really hope you all had a good 2014. We have experienced so much so far within the industry and we have so much gratitude to Troy and Jafar (our label). Color Station is bubbling at the moment. When you hear about whats going on you just know things are getting somewhere. and you have to have absolute balls to set up a label in this current musical climate. So its nice to go from having people in the music industry who are very big and very influential telling you your songs arn't good enough, or that you need to do x and y to please x and y. To then get a team behind you who are so supportive of everything that we are doing, it means a lot. So much love to CS. To the industry people who interfered, don't tell me how to fucking write songs, you mr office desk man or woman how many songs have you written in your insipid life, just because you have the power to make or break me. You who decide what the public will like obviously. And don't you take apart my personal lyrics because you dont understand it. If you dont understand them thats a good thing to me i don't want you to understand them. Britain and British music is in a lost and confused state. We are fluctuating in a large state of 'mid level bands'. Bands who can't hit the peaks, who float around that kind of set to be big in the next year, but can never reach the heights to then be replaced with the same write up of the next big thing. And having to stop after 3 years and 1 album as people are not buying their albums anymore. And people don't want to go to there gigs because the current mid level band has replaced them. Labels are to blame but also people are to blame. More live venues are closing down. Famous venues. Where are we going in Britain with our music? I see lots of worrying signs. And yes i get the argument that if you are reading this you might be thinking well Josh we have our local post punk bands doing the business, soundcloud has opened me to loads of interesting music. Blah blah. Ok i get it. But we NEED bands to get big, we need it because without interesting bands being in the public aesthetic how can we inspire the next generations in Britain. Generally one generation inspires the next in pop culture and we are stating to lose it. And i know you probably read pitchfork and diy, but joe public does not. And if Joe Public does not wan't to see your band, to support the venue you want to play at. You will find theres less precedent for an industry to support bands and interesting artists.
We need to stop saying things were better in the past with music, we need to stop talking about musical eras and complaining about never getting back there. We need to start remembering the past and take it forward, if we are so stuck in adoring the past in music how are we ever going to go forward with our music. We MIGHT be the last generation to be in 'bands'. I know you might see that as a ridiculous claim, but listening trends always change, and rock music can die. Nothing lasts forever. SO GOING FORWARD: stop pointless rivalry and stupid musical snobbery between local artists, jealousy over one band doing better than the other. We are all as artists regardless of genre and we are all in this together. But i will say, stop doing stupid gimicky stuff, we dont need it. LIke putting on a big gig to say we have broken up, when actually you are just planning on releasing songs as the same band, with a different name. All them big lights for a new twitter profile? If the e.p you have recorded is good enough why change the name. Its stupid industry pandering like that it needs to stop. Stuff like that makes me cynical. Where we are now i see it if you don't want to be part of a solid musical revolution you will be left behind, because thats what we need now. It's stupid stuff like that its not needed, drive forward and believe in your music, believe in what you started. Things take time. And lets change peoples attitude. Now the original point of this post was i was actually going to post our top 10 albums for the year, but i went off on one. Now if you do get through all this you probably think i am wrong. Well prove me wrong. Start a band get a number one album, because it ain't going to happen. LOLZ ANYWAY White Royal Top 10 Albums 2014 Of All Time (I'm leaving the artist names out as incentive to find them yourself.) 10. It's Album Time 9. Mr Twin Sister 8. I Never Learn 7. They Want My Soul 6. Lost In The Dream 5. Salad Days 4. Divide and Exit 3. The Moon Rang Like A Bell 2. Run The Jewels 2 1. To Be Kind (ALSO I liked the real estate album atlas but i didnt think it was that great. FKA Twigs album, honestly didn't like it, for me overated. Guess i'm the only one. Future Islands Seasons was obviously the best song this year, but Singles just didn't do it for me massively. The previous album is honestly better. St, Vincent yeah had a pretty good album, lets say its 11 on my list. i just dont think its the best sv album, Annie is amazing though. Jessie J needs to stop The Replacements need to play in the UK People need to not do stage invasions and try get selfies every other song at gigs that shouldn't merit that, mac demarco fans of the leeds irish centre Angel Olson album woz really good. Kasabian need to stop) So yeh thats that. Merry Holidays - Have a great NEW YEAR!
