When you're in the hot desert, there's nothing like finding a place that is almost always shaded back in the rocks that feel remarkably cool even when the air is hot. This bit of a short slot / box canyon is just such a place. It always seems refreshing to me after the walk / mild hike up into it. Often there's a pool of water (not for drinking so bring your own). And if you time it right just after a storm, you might even be able to see the waterfall. Such is the aptly named waterfall trail at the White Tanks Regional Park outside of Phoenix, Arizona. This pic is more about the canyon than the rocks, but you can see the whitish sheen to some of the rocks amidst the otherwise brown surrounding and beyond. Hence the name of the mountains. Over my decades of visiting here, I have taken many a picture but it is hard to actually capture the canyon itself. From the other side it all blends together and is very hard to see the canyon in the picture. Capturing the depth is the trick. But from this angle, in the canyon looking out, I think I was finally able to grab a bit of the feeling of being there. Maybe it's just my memories that fill in the gaps and the coolness. Either way, I like it and am glad to now try to share it with you. . If you want to follow just my nature pics, check out @DSK.Views.Nature . (all pics are shown on @dskImages) . Sept 2019 .
