Mayor of Gangnam(Style), Korean Fashion Model: Irene Kim & Winner of Project Runway: Korea Attend NYFW Event

On Friday, September 12th, 2014 we attended the GNK Pop Up Show closing reception organized by KFDA (Korea Fashion Designers Association) and Gangnam district of Seoul. (Yes, the same Gangnam that PSY sang about in his mega-hit song Gangnam Style).

Hosted by famed Korean-American model/blogger Irene Kim, the event kicked off with a heartfelt speech by the mayor of Korea’s ever famous Gangnam district in Seoul.

Among the designers showcasing their collections was Hwang Jae-geun (Ze Quun), winner of the ‘All Stars’ Season of Project Runway Korea. Other designers included AAN, ANS, GOENJO, HEICH ES HEICH, JARRET, JISEUNG LEE, & KUMANN.

The designers' collections showcased at the pop-up showroom were curated by Rachael Wang, style.com's fashion marketing director. For having so many heavy-hitters in one place, although a private event, the event went mostly under the radar.

Due to the popularity of Korean food, K-Dramas, K-Pop and other aspects of the Hallyu Wave, it’s only a matter of time until South Korean fashion explodes into the American market.
