It's football season... For every NFL victory there will be a woman with two black eyes in the morning because she "took it for the team" when her husband beat her ass when his team lost. For every touchdown dance there will be several women who wake startled from unconsciousness after being knocked out because her man's favorite quarterback made a mistake. For every celebration of the physical prowess of these men, there will be hundreds of women made to test the strength of their will to live through physical, emotional, sexual abuse, their flesh and bones, and their minds as they navigate home life with abusive men who are passionate about football. For every win... I think about what the women of fans of the losing team will have to sacrifice that night... Their flesh to the physical abuse of their partners. Their sanity because of the emotional abuse of their partners... Their safety because the one place they are supposed to be safe (home) they are in the most danger. Our society is so sick. So much of our pleasure is at the expense of someone mental, emotional, and physical health. I'm not hating on you if you enjoy watching sports. It's just so sad, heartbreaking, disturbing, and disgusting that masculinity is so fragile and toxic that women's lives are threatened, taken, or abused in the name of "pleasure", "release", "fun". It's football season. To all the women and femmes, dealing with an abusive partner, may you survive this season with your life. I'm rooting for you.
