Alright listen up fuckers. Today is a special lady’s birthday. All day I’ve been thinking about the first time I went to one of her birthday parties ten years ago. TEN. AS IN 2005. We’re ancient.
I was kind of nervous, because I’d only known her for a couple of weeks, and I sure didn’t know her family (this was a sleepover party with one other girl). But I soon forgot all about that. It was the first time I found out her mom loves the Cubs because she showed me all of her baseball cards. We played with playdoh like 5 year olds, and I can even remember making a volcano. AND DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE FUCKING GHOST WE SAW. I s2g it was there. She and Marissa can back me up. The only other thing I really remember from that night was being exhausted because I hardly ever stayed up that late like the little sheltered kid I was.The next day we were kind of disappointed because neither the skating rink or the bowling alley were open. BUT. We remembered the fair was that weekend! As soon as we got there we got some good food. I got peanut butter fudge which would turn out to be a mistake later (fair rides plus sweets don’t mix well). After we had roamed around trying to digest our yummies we went to the rides. Her mom was really scared my glasses would fall off of my face when on a ride. I thought that was weird at the time but I let her hold on to them. I think not being able to see anything made them more fun anyway. By some miracle on her part, she let us convince her to get up on the ferris wheel. I didn’t realize then just how bad her fear of heights was and still is. I think she still resents me for it (so sorry!). On the ride home I think we were all pretty quiet because we were so so tired. That’s all I can really remember. Even though the day didn’t go as planned, we had a blast, and I think it’s still probably the best birthday party I’ve ever been to. SO. Andi. Even though I can’t be with you on your birthday today, I just wanted you to know you’ve been on my heart and mind all day thinking about the great times I’ve been so fortunate to spend with you the past ten years. I pray to God we get at least fifty more. There were a couple of moments neither one of us was sure we’d make it to 21 together, but I’m unbelievably glad we did. You’re my BFFL for sure. I love you so much. You deserve all of the love and happiness in the world, especially today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOU BEAUTIFUL OLD LADY.

You are out at a bar with a stranger you didn’t know. Decide to share a cab. You’re both too wasted to drive. He slides into the cab next to you. Drunken conversation. He found you beautiful. Breathtaking, even. At your stop, you invite him in. He takes you inside, and takes you further. Morning comes around and you can’t believe what you did. You push him out the door quickly and he immediately regrets events he barely remembers. He knows that in the right circumstances, you could have been the one for him. He fucked it up before it could begin. Just like he always does. If only he could have stayed sober long enough the night before to do it the right way.
