Reasons why you should read 'Children of Time'
(Note: this is shameless self-promotion, or rather, promotion-of-self-and-best-friend. Please still read on.)
It's a Wholock series that contains over a dozen episodes by now.
Some of those episodes are short, cute TARDISodes.
It's not simply Wholock—it's Wholmes. The distinction? That means that it's canon!Holmes and not the BBC's Sherlock, as is (understandably) wildly popular amongst fans.
It's not actually Granada!Holmes, although our Baker Street boys are literally the spitting images of Jeremy Brett and David Burke. More on this later in the series.
Because it's not Granada!Holmes, this means that Watson actually did marry Mary. And she died before the series even begins. And yes, it's really sad.
The TARDIS flirts with Sherlock Holmes. Let that sink in.
The first episode meets Holmes during the Great Hiatus, in Tibet. Tibet.
Character development. Oh, the character development.
Nu Who's season 3 is rewritten, with Martha written out (with no disrespect to her character), and Holmes and Watson written in. Season 3 eps get remixed!
"Daleks in Manhattan"/"Evolution of the Daleks" remixed. In World War II. With an important female protagonist. And a slightly happier ending.
Nikola Tesla. Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse being bros.
Beth Lestrade. As a teenager. Yes, that Beth Lestrade from Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century, as a teenager.
And Sherlock Holmes as a fencing instructor. Who smacks down a bully.
And adorkable John Smith a la "Human Nature"/"Family of Blood".
The Ninth Doctor meets the Tenth Doctor and future Companions, Holmes and Watson. During those few seconds that the TARDIS was gone at the end of "Rose".
Babylon 5 meets Doctor Who! Kind of. Sort of. With a talking elevator. And a nasty bureaucrat who collects Holmes. Ouch.
Did we mention the Holmes!angst? We gots it.
Watson!angst, too.
Tenth Doctor!angst is off the charts. I repeat, OFF THE CHARTS.
This somehow doesn't hurt the story.
There are three mysteries introduced into the story arc of the first season, set out in Episodes 4 and 5. Readers still don't know yet.
The first season is still being written and posted. But there will be a second season, just like a TV series.
Despite the episodic nature of the first season thus far, there is a definite story arc playing out beneath the readers' very noses!
And we're now getting through "Watson and Sparrow," our version of "Blink." Watson-centric. Watson kicking ass and taking names. Watson. <3
And if you read, please take a few moments to review! Reviews are our bread and butter, and we squee like kids at Christmas whenever we get a new review. And, lately, our readership seems to be going down, or at least our reviewer-ship is. Please give us a chance, and give us some love!
Reminder that Gridson's third chapter is up!
The posting of this episode will really fly by, because I need to finish only a couple of scenes and the rest are all done!
And then, ooooo! *rubs hands and shivers* Manhattan...
Interview, plz?
All right, so! By now, if you're following me, you probably know that I'm working on a crossover series with a friend, and that it's Wholock (technically Wholmes). The series title is Children of Time, and you can find it in-progress here: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/4285380/
And Ria and I would really love to hear from those of you that are reading it!
So! Here's one thing you can do! Do you have any questions, any specific comments you want to make, anything at all that you'd like us to address? Send me an ask (more than one per person is welcome!) or reblog this post if your question/comment is too long for the ask box. I'll gather up the questions/comments, and then Ria and I will answer them in interview style!
Please, ask us about anything you'd like to know about the stories! I can't guarantee that we can give you a straight answer, but we'll certainly do our level best!
"Hey! 'Lo, excuse me? Would you mind telling me why I'm strapped down—to an ominous-looking operating table?"
That's right -- "Smith and Holmes" is back on track, with the climatic Chapter 8 now uploaded on FFN! http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8578187/9/Children-of-Time-Ep-1-Smith-and-Holmes (I'm sorry -- I still haven't gotten the hang of inserting URLs since Tumblr made the big change. If anybody can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it!)
One more installment to go, and then it's on to "Men of England"!
This is the Wholmes Productions page for the Children of Time series - I'm posting this instead of the link to the first chapter of the first (and currently, only posted) fic just for future convenience! As my BFF and co-writer says on the page:
Our Wholmes series, ‘Children of Time’, is very much an Alternate Universe, exploring what might happen if Holmes and Watson were substituted for Martha Jones as the Doctor’s full-time companions. Some of these adventures will seem very familiar, some greatly altered, and there may even be some completely new stories... However, one thing is absolutely certain: it’s going to be an amazing voyage, and there are plenty of surprises in store! Well, with those three madcaps on the loose, what do you expect? The unexpected, of course... We hope you enjoy the ride!
Children of Time: Quotes, pt. 1
So, here are most of the posted quotes to date, plus a heaping helping of new ones in upcoming posts. Enjoy!
Smith and Holmes
"I’m the Doctor. That’s what I am, that’s who I am. You wouldn’t want to know my Name—no one would. I’m the Doctor, because I help people. I heal them if I can. And if I fail them… I don’t forgive myself. And I try to forget. Because if I ever, for one moment, dwelt on the past… I think it would kill me."
