#HOW DID THIS HAPPEN AND EVERYONE IGNORES IT (via @randomthunk)
That... is honestly a fair point because I never see anybody address it. I mean, sure, it’s a minisode, but... I don’t think we were meant to take it as less-than-canon-or-whatever-the-heck-passes-for-it-on-this-show.

Some reasons to want a villain to have a redemption arc, outside of the ‘lol they’re ~totes hawt~’ reason, which people on tumblr have decreed to be Not Good Enough.
The villain your life is never going to try to redeem themself. A fictional stand-in can be a form of catharsis. Maybe that process isn’t for you, but that’s okay - somebody else might want this particular coping mechanism.
You were the villain in someone else’s life. Everyone’s done bad things, and everyone wants forgiveness. Seeing a character you relate to be redeemed gives you hope.
The process of character development required for a bad person to become a good one is fascinating and complex, a challenge for writers and a great form of entertainment for readers/viewers.
You come from a religion where forgiveness and redemption are heavily emphasised in some way, and so subscribe to the idea that anyone can find forgiveness. (What’s up can you tell I’m a Catholic?)
The tension in a story centred around the idea that a villain might change sides is exciting to read/view.
Understanding the complex moral reasoning behind villainous acts is fascinating and interesting to read/view.
You subscribe to the idea that anyone can be convinced they are in the right no matter how horrific their actions, and deconstructing that process is interesting to you.
You just fucking like the character, for whatever reason, and you wanna watch them develop in peace, good grief people.
