You don’t even have to acknowledge this 🙈…but there really needs to be more dub con/non con unhealthy power dynamic fics that feature rooster 😩
I am going to acknowledge this because YOU'RE RIGHT and you should say so.
I personally think that this is especially true for Rooster/Mav tbh. All of the people who are into them being very sweet and fluffy and in love are totally valid, it's just not my go-to thing (though I believe that they love each other, just in a very messed up way 😅).
That 20+ year age difference is at the very least concerning, especially when you think about Mav desperately wanting to be his father figure and trying to be a huge an influential part of Rooster's life from like childhood until 18/19 when he pulled that application. And like don't get me wrong I am SUPER INTO THAT DYNAMIC (oh boy am I ever), but it 100% should show up more in fics imo and not be totally ignored for Rooster and Mav getting together at the end of TGM and it being smooth sailing flying for 'em.
(also don't tell me that baby boy wouldn't have been lost, confused, hurt and looking to lash out before and then also when he finally was able to join the Naval Academy at 22/23 - so we really deserve to see him making terrible fucking decisions, being reckless and rebelling against everything Maverick ever tried to instill in him WHILE ALSO struggling to be like his dad that he never really knew and only got to hear stories about)
As an additional aside, it seems to me like it's lacking from the fandom at large because the only real places we can wedge some dub-con/non-con into their relationship specifically is during the actual span of the film before they reconnect (not a whole lot of time there) and/or during Rooster's teenage years which I think fic writers most likely don't want to explore due to panic about being cancelled for writing about some not-real, entirely made up characters having an age difference/being underage in the fic BUT I think that's the most interesting part about their relationship (the guilt and panic and just overwhelming badwrong of it all ESPECAILLY with Mav having to see photos of Goose every day of his life - can you IMAGINE??)
And those are just my Rooster/Mav feelings...
