She’s forgetting someone. She can feel it in her heart, in her soul --- in every nerve
that writhes with anguish from her growing realization that she forgot him.
( Are you sure? Are you positive? You probably just made him up. )
She can’t remember his face, his voice, his laugh ; even his name eludes her. Her
chest constricts --- tighter and tighter until she finds it difficult to breathe and she
wonders if her body’s turning to dust to join her lost memories.
( Would that be so bad? )
She takes a breath. Her lungs fill with the balmy sea breeze. The soggy planks creak
plaintively beneath her. White foam washes ashore rhythmically. Leaves rustle in the
thick, ancient branches of the trees. Insects buzz, birds chirp ; the island’s song is
a soothing one. She becomes aware of another’s presence and her body sways as
she turns to greet Selphie ---
