So... the question is... why can Rumpel travel to Austria but not to the U.S.? Or is there an Austria in a different universe or something? I don't get it.

1. Max; even now that he's found a family with Galinda, Diablos, and Ruby, has nightmares of being alone. Regardless of the years he lived alone, both in Storybrooke and in the Enchanted Forest, enduring that again is his worst fear. 2. Max had never thought of seeking revenge for anything. Until now. Now; with Ruby, Diablos, Galinda and his soon to be born siblings, he's found he'll stop at nothing to defend them, or should something happen avenge them. They've changed his life in many ways, giving him something to fight for. 3. Max doesn't make promises lightly. He tried his best to keep any promises he makes, completely expecting the same for others that make promises to him. 4. Betrayal. Max hasn't experienced it himself, but he's seen it happen to others. It was, in part, what encouraged him to stay away from everyone else, to keep himself from getting hurt. Along with being alone, it's one of his fears. He knows that letting people in is what gives another the power to hurt, but he's not letting this stop him. 5. Max's urges range from the desire to steal anything and everything that's not nailed down to the urge to cling to anyone showing him the smallest bit of kindness. One could say his urges are still mostly innocent, unless very specific people are involved.
