these books are gross i can’t believe they’ve gotten as much attention as they have

i know it makes me so upset like it makes abuse seem okay and basically jumps over the fact that he's a maniac and is so awful because he was raped as a teenager yet still talks to his assaulter???  like it literally is such an influential book and people could take so much more from it like "oh my god this is not a romantic novel, this is a horror novel and this is real and happening and we need to do something about this and call these people out" but of course all signs of any wrongdoing are completely ignored and it leads to women yearning for evil human beings and men being those evil beings
