Paper cutout animation test! Featuring my wip Moho rig.
I made a quick animation in Moho and then exported the individual frames and used a cricut to cut them out. Then, I did a "quick stop-motion test" on a makeshift light table because I am apparently insane.
(Adding a few sheets of vellum helped sell the look.)
The Moho animation took about 30 mins...filming the stop-motion shot also only took about 30 mins. (because it was only 2 seconds.)
But the printing, cutting, gluing, and other fabrication.....took days.
Jim Henson's masterpiece The Dark Crystal is in theaters this month. Here's a few favorite pages I did for @boomstudios "Jim Henson Presents: The Heretic & the Wanderer".
Few words could describe the ecstatic honor I felt to offer my drawings to a story that has inspired me ever since I was a child - artistically, emotionally.
And fewer words could summarize how grateful I am to BOOM for such a captivating and touching opportunity. The things I've learned, the changes I've made to my approaches, this was one of those unforgettable ones and I couldn't thank BOOM and the Jim Henson Company enough for crafting such a breathtaking tale, Seanan McGuire for his timeless storytelling, and Valentina Pinto for her gorgeous colors - she not only enhanced the pages with her vibrant palettes but fully brought to life the gentle beauty of Thra.
The Dark Crystal and Age of Resistance are grand pieces of art that still captivate to this day and I couldn't think of a more beloved story - a tale of unity, of hope, togetherness, and a timely reminder to hold one another close in a world governed by the cruel and the lying - only through communication, vulnerability, and confronting misinformation can justice prevail under the iron claws of the cowardly skekSis.
Now pardon me, I must devour pages of Froud concept art.
