Making Trágame Tierra really messed me up for a bit.
It was an album that reflected an incredibly difficult period in my life.
It was very exhausting, but I needed to make it in order to give my brain a focus point at which to aim the woken moments.
A few months after coming home from my last tour, I was forced to face some new “idiosyncrasies.” I began what I now know to be a neverending journey of bettering myself. Core mission statement: to make cool shit and bring as much enjoyment to people for as long as I'm here.
Whilst beginning to face those “idiosyncrasies,” I began writing a lot more without vocals or melody in mind. I needed to hear music that wasn’t as demanding of my attention, yet always comforted me.
Nowadays, I quite enjoy an occasional break from message or intent. To be present is a truly heady sensation.
With one exception, the whole collection of songs was written and recorded in 4 days.
Stream of consciousness.
I hope you find utility in it as I have.
The first half is called REPOSE. It's for relaxing and calm, especially in trying settings like traffic, airports, packed buses and train rides.
The second half is called OPERATOR. These songs are brash and angry and are more suited to physical activity and the release of frustration. I wouldn’t recommend listening to these in the settings mentioned above.
But it's up to you. This is how they work for me. I'm interested to see other people's impressions.
Take care.
