reason why my (step)dad is awesome
when my (step)dad met my mom, he was nineteen and she was eighteen. My mother had me when she was seventeen. She'd gone through a messy break up with my father and was getting back into the routine of being a teen.
ANYWAYS, they met, my dad liked my mom, my mom didn't like my dad. she tried everything to get him to stop talking to her. finally, she'd had enough and told him that she had a daughter, sure that it would scare him off. know what he said? "oh, really? that's cool! I like kids."
they started dating after my mom made it clear that we were a package deal. my dad was nineteen years old. nineteen. and he took us both as his own. my parents eventually got married, but think about it.
at nineteen, most guys are still struggling with making adult decisions and just trying to get through she shift from adolescent to adult.
my dad understood the responsibility and maturity it would take to date someone who was trying to raise a little girl. and he took it. he never treated me any different because I was the product of my mother's last relationship. he never showed me anything but love, even after my half siblings were born. he's never called me is step-daughter, choosing instead to call me his daughter, as if I'm his own flesh and blood. because, in a sense, he sees me as just that.
and this is why I love my dad so much. because he took in a little girl and showed her that any idiot can be a dad, but that it takes a real man to raise a kid. even when the kid isn't his.
