Fun times at the radio station 🎶🎶🎨🎭#hairwhippin #whrw #radiostation #musiclyfe #hippies #dreadhead #headbobbin
My college radio station WHRW 90.5 FM Binghamton had a long-running program from community member Daniel Jan Walikis called the European Ethnic Melodies Show. He had such energy while he was “retired”! From his death in 2012 until a few days ago, his collection of 2,000 records covering American Polka and other related Eastern European/Balkan music lacked an audience to admire it. Thanks to the help of Dan Jan’s family and some radio station alums, the collecton is being taken care of by The ARChive of Contemporary Music. I regret that I never touched his copy of Electro-Nova’s Ukranian -- “the first electronic Ukrainian album of its kind.” I anticipate a tribute to him at our station’s 50th reunion next May.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. saw them live at Moe Fest 2014 at Binghamton University. They were really great live and this song had so much energy. If you enjoy, also check out Run
The Motion Sick: Radio Station Spotlight: WVCW
Although some commercial stations are currently playing our music regularly, we largely depend on college and non-commercial radio for airplay. I was a DJ for about 9 years at WHRW and WRBB doing both pop and sound collage shows and serving on the board at each station in a variety of positions. Because of the importance of non-commercial radio to us, and the degree to which it is ignored by the mainstream media, we thought we'd take some time to feature some great smaller radio stations that you may not know about yet. Virginia Commonwealth University's station WVCW is a definite up-and-comer. They've got all kinds of shows ranging from Americana to Metal to Hip-Hop. Music director Mike Garrett gives us a little insight into the exciting things happening over at WVCW: We've come back from having only 7 staff members who only got to play world music to a full fledged station with 40 returning staff, 20-30 new staff applications every semester, a new server, new format, new news department, and many many other improvements. We're even expecting to be on air in the next 5 years. Keep your eyes out for WVCW. Head on over to WVCW and give a listen!
Binghamton University's WHRW, the area's only Free Format radio station.
Listen live from 3am-5am for a packed show: a "live" interview with David Foster Wallace, some beautiful music from some incredible people, and a 4:20 Small Black ticket giveaway.
Peace love Moe... and Paul.
