Adventures in sleep deprivation
Things you can expect from a sleep deprived character that is abruptly awoken after falling asleep:
1. Dilated eyes
2. Pale skin
3. Uncoordinated movements (think slurring words but that’s what your body is doing)
4. Acting drunk ie. immediately eating anything and everything, holding objects incorrectly, sending incomprehensible messages
5. Without continued rest they can begin to exhibit symptoms of illness such as being feverish, developing a headache or being dizzy, and nausea to name a few.
How do I know this? Things I personally felt today: 3-5, things my roommate mentioned about me: 1-3.
Things you may not notice as clues of sleep deprivation:
1. Always. Hungry. Your body needs energy somehow and if you aren’t recharging between the sheets you better be ready for the munchies.
2. Road hypnosis. You know that feeling when you drive and you’re just following the road or whomever is in front of you without taking in your surroundings and suddenly you’re 10 minutes from home? Yeah. It’s easier to fall into while driving at night since you can’t usually see what’s around you but during the daytime it’s much more abrasive to your brain.
3. Brain to mouth filter is gone. As a sober human most of the time, I have moments when I think I say something and nothing comes out. Sleep deprived, I think something and say it out loud. This can be dangerous depending on who is with you.
Also, your eyes will be dry as hell. I’m so ready for bed.
