#whump preferences

Is it just me or does anyone else’s whump roles have to be filled very specifically? Like am I the only one who’s ever misinterpreted a whumpfic’s summary/tags and thought Character A was going to be the whumpee so I went in very excited, and then got to the part revealing Character B was the whumpee and immediately deleted the tab, even though the whump itself was just what I wanted? No judgement or criticism for the writer of course, just very strong personal preferences? Is this pickiness normal? 😂

Yeah, I’ve had times like that too. It’s a bummer when it’s not the whumpee you’re hoping for!

Hey, I'm curious about something since you share such a wide variety of things when it comes to whump. What is your criteria, if any, for enjoying whump? Like do you have to be attracted to the actor, do you have to have some sort of attachment to the character, do you enjoy specific tropes etc.? X

Yes I do have preferences when it comes to whump. I like male whumpees. I have never been active in any fandoms and I rarely read fanfiction. So I don't need to have an attachment to the character but I only enjoy the whump when I'm attracted to him. I prefer the stoic type that put up a fight over submissive characters.

Regarding tropes I like scenarios that leave the character broken who will then be comforted by a caretaker. So I am mostly into hurt/ comfort.

But I do enjoy some good old shooting/ stabbing/ beating too from time to time, especially if there is some kind of aftercare (also any whipping scene is a guilty pleasure of mine. That gets me every time.🤷‍♀️)

I don't like scenarios where restriction of breathing is involved like choking, drowning or asthma attacks. Also I don't like humiliation scenes. And anything that involves permanent damage or death.

But I will still post anything I can find because I want to inform people of whump scenes even if I don't like them myself. Especially if I can find scenes that are not that well known. 🙂

I'm bi but I prefer whump with men... I only occasionally like whump with women. Do you think that means I'm not actually bi? I tend to find women prettier/ more aesthetically pleasing but I don't know if maybe that's just an aesthetic thing? IDK- I know you're not an expert I just wanted your, and maybe other people's opinions or know if someone else has had a similar experience.

I’m not bi so i can’t speak too much about that experience but I don’t believe that your whumpee preferences is necessarily connected to your sexual orientation. It can be but liking whump isn’t inherently a sexual thing. It certainly isn’t for me. So in my head, it’s not connected my sexual orientation. Preferring men with your whump does not mean your not bi. If you say your bi, your bi. Having a preference for male whump doesn’t contradict that at all! Heck having a preference males in terms of sexual attraction doesn’t negate you being bi either. My friend is pan and pretty much only dates guys. Doesn’t make him less pan than he is. Whump preferences are weird and confusing. I’m ace and the feelings I get when I see good whump are as close to sexual attraction as I can think of after reading how allos describe it. Doesn’t make me any less ace. So no i don’t think you preferring male whumpees makes you any less bi at all, my friend. You feel how you feel and you choose what you identify as. If you feel that the label bi fits you, then go ahead an identify as bi! If you decide that maybe your not bi but something else or you don’t know what then that’s okay too! It’s all fine! From my experience, a great deal of the community prefer men over women whump (although there are plenty of people who enjoy female whump!). There’s actually been a lot of discussion about why we as a community seem to prefer male whump. I can’t find any of the posts I’m thinking about but maybe someone can help out?

So in summation: No I don’t think your not bi just because you prefer male whumppes :) <3

1. What's your name/nickname:

Pretty much everyone online calls me Socks, which is why I popped it in my username for my whump blog, because it's me... only stained red 😈 (with blood if that wasn't obvious)

11. Favorite whump trope?

Kidnapping, and holding someone hostage, and all variations on that theme. There's something about the prolonged exposure to whump, the inability to get away from it, and the psychology toll it takes on a character, even if it's only a few days, that sets my whump lovin' heart racing.

14. What’s your weapon of choice for inflicting any sort of injury to your whumpee? (Like a gun, a whip, a knife, a sword, whichever…)

Oooh I had to think about this one... I like a knife/dagger for threatening a character, but for actually hurting them I think anything that you can beat them with, especially if it's also going to break the skin eventually but not cut deeply so they bleed but... slowly. Basically this is me saying a cane or brass knuckles or something like that.

30. What is your favorite whump trope, nsfw-wise?

I like a bit of forced nakedness. It doesn't have to be sexual, but the vulnerability and humiliation that can come from a character having their clothes taken away is just *chefs kiss* amazing.

Does anyone else get jealous of other people’s whump? I mean, I just saw what is probably a lovely episode of a tv show if I was into sick fic. I’m a whumper so I know how it could feel if I was into it. I just don’t feel anything for this kind of whump and I wish I did. Does anyone else feel that way about some kind of whump that just doesn’t do anything for them?

For me, there is nothing better then a good Capture and Rescue Whump Fic where the Found Family does the rescuing. Especially if the person getting whumped thinks their not worth rescuing.
