he does lose/shed feathers as a stress response :< it definitely freaked his family out the first time they saw it, but they're used to it by now. they always grow back pretty quickly.
that's absolutely why! maybe if they felt that the situation was dire and donnie was in active danger, they may reconsider, but what they could potentially gain from having access to the lake during the day (and they have no idea if they would actually gain anything at all) isn't worth risking mikey's safety.

kind of? physical things (photographs, childhood toys, trinkets from his lab or room, etc.) always help, and so does just having a family member around point blank. the problem is that if it's truly a bad day then none of them are going to get the chance to do any of that stuff. if he isn't aggressive but doesn't know who they are, they will sometimes try to gently prompt memories, but they usually tread carefully as this tends to be somewhat hit-or-miss. sometimes it helps, but sometimes it doesn't achieve much beyond upsetting and confusing donnie, and it's hard to predict the outcome. if donnie is having a 'nothing is wrong and i'm the lake guardian and i'm totally comfortable with that! yay my family is visiting! nothing is wrong!' day then they usually won't try to prompt memories, because nine times out of ten it'll lead to donnie either becoming upset and aggressive or confused and distressed. either way, less than ideal.
@fan-fucking-tasty absolutely he has-- he's attacked all of them before and splinter is no exception. it was pretty heartbreaking for him the first time it happened and he definitely spent a good deal of time locked away in his room just... being sad and not knowing what to do. but he remembered how excited donnie was the first time he went to go visit. so after letting himself be devastated for a while, he picked himself back up and kept trying. his son still needs him.

Hold Every Memory Mike's cabinmate ICE had done his makeup once, and it was a fun experience, though the end result had definitely been an experiment in personal style. He loved the goth look ICE had given him, they had rocked it together so hard, but it might be nice to try something a little more... him, as well!
And it was definitely super nice of them to offer. Mike still had no idea what he was doing, makeup-wise, so having an experienced hand helping him out would be totally awesome.
"I'd really super appreciate some makeup help!" Mike replied, grinning from ear to ear and pulling his mask down. "What do you think'd look good on me? Because I am totally down for some sparkles."

about the Donnie being blind thing- not if anyone said this yet but the Kraang were using his brain/eyes so when he got disconnected it could've impaired his vision since he was seeing through their eyes --or the ship's eyes, at least

Donnie looked up, opening his mouth to answer the question, but stopping short for a second as he took in what the other turtle was wearing. They were turtles. Why was this turtle wearing a bathing suit? It kinda looked like a jellyfish, though. Oh! Maybe that was the point, to try to draw jellyfish or a jellyfish predator out? This Don was looking for wildlife.
The eight-year-old turned his attention back to the bucket he had in front of him. "I've got some water from the ocean in a couple of little vials, and I took some from some tidepools, too. I've gotten lots of rocks!" he tilted his bucket so the other turtle could see. "They all look really cool! But they do seem a little odd, like this place is. But I've not seen much wildlife." He frowned a little. "I was really hoping to see some mollusks of some sort, or even catch a crab, maybe. But maybe I'm just not looking in the right places."

Donnie looked up from the line of ants he was following, the eight-year-old trying his best to stay out of anything that would mess up his gray hakama pants and purple, geometrically patterned kimono. He wanted to be in the dirt, or poking around, doing science things, but he had to be good and stay clean. It was hard to stay clean, when there was so much to do!
He didn't think makeup and glitter would count as staying clean, not for him.
"Um... no thank you," he said politely. "I don't want to wear makeup. It looks itchy and like it's a lot of trouble. Aunt April likes to put it on to feel extra pretty sometimes, but I don't think it looks like much fun." He paused a thought occurring to him. "Buuuuut if you're not gonna use all that glitter, can I have some? It'll be a neat way to mark the trail of the ants I'm following!"
