Thanks for being a rainbow with me! ❤🌈 #WhyAustinPride? I moved back to Austin, two years ago, on a rainy, cloudy day that seemed to last for months and discovered everything changed. The community I built before I left was gone. I was struggling to find my place, my home, and then I was asked to join the Pride Board. Austin Pride has become my place. It has given me a voice to a cause that is ingrained in my DNA. It is my duty to be me, loudly, and Pride has given me the stage to do just that. Pride has given me a purpose, allowed my ideas to flourish and affect the people around me for the better. It has given me a reason to be good for me and for the sake of others. I love that Maya Angelou quote: “Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud”. Pride was my rainbow. It is my goal to continually affiliate my life’s work with this belief and promote this in every person. My values are AGLPF's values of educating, providing resources, and connecting the LGBTQ community. Pride means the complete and unconditional love and acceptance of one's own being, personhood, mind, body, spirit, affiliations, and communities. Like too many self-identifying LGBTQ people, I was filled with self-hate, and doubt. I grew up believing I was different and less than. My turn... I joined Austin Pride because I want to make sure all members of the LGBTQIA+ Community have a voice. I believe we need to be the change we want to see. I want to lift others up in our community to be able to tell their stories, find their strength, and beautify our city in a way that only they can. As Outreach Co-Director, I know Austin Pride is more than a parade and festival, it's a #revolution, a force to be reckoned with. I had the absolute joy of meeting Freddy during our board interview. He is kind and caring. In fact, he helped me when I went to the wrong hotel while we were hosting the CAPI Conference.
