So it’s not very often I engage personally on Tumblr.  For the most part my content is a collection of research and reblogs.  Today is a little different.

My name is Cassie, I’m the Education Manager for a nonprofit in Austin, TX called TexArts.  We have a small academy (which I am attempting to run) and a professional theatre program.  

Theater is not the most Solarpunk of professions.  It can be, but it can also be horribly wasteful.  This is something I’ve struggled with a lot, but am trying to figure out some best practices for waste management.  Theater has taught me to be resourceful, creative, and caring.  These are some of the things that I strive to instill in the students that I teach, and that I think will be crucial to a solarpunk future

In any event, today is a day called Amplify Austin, where the cities’ nonprofit organizations all fundraise together and secure much of our funding for the year.  I’m going to post a link to my fundraising page, if you’d like to support me through that, I’d very much appreciate it.  

Regardless of whether or not you have some money to give, I’d still like to take the time to get a little bit personal.  I’m a dichotomy of hiking, plant stealing, & DIY vs. sequins, Aquanet, & splits.  But you all should know that. One of the greatest things that I’ve gained from becoming part of the solarpunk community is a support system that values the same things that I do.  

You all should know that you can be solarpunk in whatever you’re doing.  The fact that you’re here and you’re trying is amazing.  Use whatever you love as a vehicle for change and do your best.

It’s time for AmplifyAustin! If you missed my last posts, AmplifyAustin is a 24 hour period from Feb 28 6pm CST to Mar 1 6pm CST to encourage people to donate to non-profits in Austin, Texas. This year, I decided to make a small fundraiser for the Austin German Shepherd Rescue which the rescue I volunteer to take photos for. AGSDR is an amazing organization that I'm proud to volunteer for and one that I hope to volunteer with for years to come. The rescue dogs I have posted here like Onyx, Bella, and Ginna’s Litter have all come through AGSDR!

How it works is very easy. AmplifyAustin uses GiftGab which is a safe and secure platform for donating. All you have to do is go to the link below, choose an amount you want to donate (Note: You do not have to donate a minimum of $30! You can choose your own, even as little as $5 helps!). When you donate, at the end, you can choose to give a note. If you put "#LoveTitos", Tito's Handmade Vodka will add an extra $5 to your donation (up to $10,000)! So if you donate, don't forget your hashtag!
