As soon as I woke up this morning, I casually rolled over - eyes barely open - and searched my night stand for my cell phone. I unlocked it and instantly opened Facebook (don't even need my eyes to be open for this one; it is pretty much in my muscle memory). Passing photos of pugs in ball pits and random posts about my grandparents complaining about winter driving, I stumbled upon a picture of a blue and black dress. A simple picture, but almost with 25,000 likes and a similar number of comments and shares. Super weird, I thought. Whats so special about this dress? I continued to scroll down my feed, and there the same dress was again. But this time, gold and white. Even more weird. I decided to take a look at the comments. "What the fuck is wrong with this dress! One minute is blue and black, and the next its white and gold," "What kind of sorcery is this?" and "Are aliens finally taking over?" are just a few of the comments I read. At this point I was interested. I had seen two pictures of the same dress, except the colors were different in each picture. I kept looking down my newsfeed and finally found an article explaining it:

Apparently, a guest of a wedding wore this dress and posted a picture of it online. Her friends at the wedding could not decide what colors her dress was, and that is how this whole thing started. This article states that depending on the light editing of the picture, the color changes. This dress situation has blinded the internet for hours, causing a mass debate on something that really does not matter in my opinion. Celebrities including Taylor Swift, Vanessa Hudgens and others have commented and shared their views on this situation. I have done even more research on it just to see who is actually paying attention to the story, and found that CTV, the National Post, Time, the Business Insider, Global News and many other sources have covered this story. I won't rant on forever, but I will say, why is this such a public interest? The audience of these news sources should not be concerned with the color of a dress, however, it seems that they are. This is a kind of cool illusion that has managed to get people involved and talking on social media, but I feel like we should be focusing on more important news stories that actually have an affect on the world we live in.

The video in this one I think is really important and outlines more of what I am trying to get across:
