Broke my own personal embargo and saw that scene...
I’m sad and mad and I’m trying not to be 😭 Thinking of writing my own fix it fic where there is a bit of a time jump. I’m looking forward to other reylo writers with their own fix its!
TROS Rant
So, a thing I’ve read and heard about while perusing the world wide web for Reylo content to heal my fractured heart and soul, is the outlandish idea that the ending of TROS had to be the way it was because if Ben Solo had lived the Skywalker Saga “wouldn’t have ended” and “they would just have to keep making movies and stories about it and it would never get closure.”
Excuse me?!?!
First of all, who’s “they?” Do you mean Disney? Do you mean to say that having Ben Solo live at the end of TROS would mean Disney would be obligated to make more films simply because he was alive? That’s ridiculous! Just because a film has a happy ending with both main characters surviving doesn’t mean any more movies need to be made. That is the weakest argument I’ve ever heard, point blank.
Second of all, do you mean to say that as humans we wouldn’t have felt closure seeing Ben standing next to Rey watching the suns set on Tatooine, looking toward the horizon and all that it represents? Relief, a new beginning, righting past wrongs, facing the repercussions of their actions together, united and with hope? I for one would have found that incredibly satisfying and a perfect ending to the Skywalker Saga which has always been centered around that message.
I can only speculate at the reasons for killing off Ben Solo but I sincerely hope this was not one of them. What a cop out.
