There is no need of a definition or an introduction to jeans. These pants have been around for over a century.   Skinny Jeans

        Skinny jeans, as they are popularly known are designed to be skin tight. There has always been a debate on whether they are comfortable to wear. For this reason, lot of the skinny fit jeans are made to be stretchable. This is done by inclusion of a percentage of spandex to the denim material.

    Tapered Jeans

      Tapered jeans are designed such that they are narrower at the ankles. It is similar to skinny jeans but they are not as body hugging. The narrow ankles are clearly visible when you wear a jeans with this fit.

    Carrot Fit Jeans

        The carrot fit is similar to tappered jeans, and sometimes they are known to be the same. But, the only difference is that the carrot fit jeans are slightly baggier at the crotch, not as slim as the tapered fit. Similar to a drop crotch design. 

    Narrow/Slim fit Jeans

        Narrow or slim fit jeans are designed to give you a tailored fit. They are similar to skinny jeans in all terms except that they are not body hugging. 

      Baggy/Anti fit  Jeans

          Baggy Jeans are also known as anti fit jeans because they are meant to be exactly opposite of a perfect fit. They are loose and provide lots of room for the legs. 

    Low waist Jeans

      Low waist jeans are common among women's jeans designs. They are designed to have a shorter length at the crotch and worn lower to the waist.

      Bootcut Jeans

        The Bootcut jeans are just your normal slim fit jeans but with wider ankles. As you get by their name, they are designed such that the jeans could be pulled over the boots, which isn't possible with narrow fitted jeans.

Wedding season Begins! Punjabi Wedding Fashion

    The Indian wedding season kicks off with a bang, its usually begins in mid-October and lasts until spring. Being a Punjabi, we take this season pretty seriously! There are two weddings already lined up, one in October and the other one in December.

    Punjabis are known for their whole-hearted nature and thus the weddings are celebrated with splendor and grandeur. Fun and frolic is the environment you’d experience at a Punjabi wedding, it’s cheerful and lively, basically full of colors and music.

          The Sikh wedding ceremony is called the Anand Karaj meaning, the Blissful union, this takes place in the Gurudwara. The main part of the Anand Karaj, is when the couple joined by a piece of cloth circle the Guru Granth Sahib Ji four times(Laava), while the Laav(hymn) for each circle is sung in turn.

                    BRIDAL WEAR.

          For the ceremony in the Gurudwara, the traditional sikh bridal wear is the Punjabi suit that is a short Kurta with a Patiyala Salwar and also a dupatta which is heavily embellished. The main focus is normally given to the Dupatta, since it’s adorned on the head in the Gurudwara. Heavy gold jewelry is an integral feature of Sikh bridal attire.

      The colors that are most preferred are shades of red and pink. Maroon and Magenta are the two favorites.

          The one ritual that I love the most is the Chura ceremony. Chura is a set of bangles in red and white, which is worn by the bride on the morning of the wedding day. The bride’s maternal uncle and aunt choose the set of chura (21 bangles); they dip each bangle in a bowl of milk and rose petals and put it on for the bride. The bride should ideally wear the chura for atleast a year.

          After the chura is worn, the bride’s sisters and friends tie ‘Kalire’ to the chura, these Kalire clinking, long umbrella shaped jewelry made of silver or gold. This symbolizes the good wishes given to the bride by her sisters and friends. And also worn to remind the bride of her sisters and friends.

            The chura and kalire together are one of the essential accessories that complete the bride’s attire.

              Another fun aspect behind the tying of the chura – after the wedding, the bride rubs her over the heads of her unmarried sisters and friends, and if a part of the kalire falls on any of the girls, it is believed that she will be the next one to get married.

Latest Onam Fashion Trends – Kerala a land of festivals – TRADITION MEETS MODERNITY

Kerala a land of spices, a land of coconuts, a land of festivals and a land of the gods! The harvest festival of Kerala, Onam is on September 16th and the preparations have already begun. This multi-cultural festival is celebrated with boat races, beautiful flower decorations called the Pookalam, and an elaborate feast known as the Onasadya. This post is about my views on latest onam fashion trends.

    Another famous tradition of the festival, which caught my attention the most, and I’m sure is a favorite among all the Kerala Shopaholics is to wear brand new clothes and jewelry on this day. There’s a really amazing reason behind this tradition, it is believed that discarding old clothes symbolizes removing negative energies. (Now that’s what I’m going to tell my mom when I want to buy new clothes!). The new outfits termed as Onakkodi, comprises of simple, elegant and traditional pure cotton Kasavu Sarees bordered with gold brocade for women, and cotton long skirts or “mund” for men.

        TRADITION MEETS MODERNITY

    The latest fashion trends are about a combination of tradition and modernity, it’s either giving a twist to the traditional designs or accessorizing it with modern pieces.

    The blouse has been given a very creative makeover; the traditional puff sleeves have been transformed to different styles of sleeveless blouses. The regular gold and off-white bloused have been replaced with brightly colored blouses.

        The gold border on the sarees have been getting thicker and thicker over the years, and is now embroidered with lots of bling, sequins, silver threads and other accessories. The pallus are also adorned with motifs of squirrels, Radha and Krishna and beautiful mural paintings and abstract art too.

              If the sarees are prominent among the women, the kurti and anarkali salwar, with kasavu embroidery are worn by the younger girls..
