The Japanese version says "Why were you chosen?" right? Maybe "he" doesn't actually exist and it's just a lost in translation mishap. I always thought he wanted to know why sora had a heart and he didn't. Especially after 3D when he says that it could of been either way.

Hmm, good point, I now don't think it'd be a translation mistake, maybe we're just looking at it the wrong way.

Japanese as a language tends to be a bit vague when you're talking about something. Most of the time, without directly saying the subject, it is implied by the context of the conversation. The Japanese translation "Why were you chosen?" is correct BUT it isn't directly saying the subject that is doing the 'choosing'. That is implied by the context of the conversation/speakers. I haven't played this game in years so I've forgotten a lot about the story/context of this moment, sorry!

I think Roxas meant the keyblade, like, he spent almost all 358/2 days wondering why he had a keyblade, then he just finds out that this sora were the same person and oh, surprise, he can wield a keyblade. If they are the same, it's obvious his answer to why he can wield it would be found asking his original self. And I guess he tested Sora to see why, and when he finally got his answer he said "I see. That's why." he was refering to the keyblade in my point of view...

So he tested Sora to see why he, and in turn, himself, could wield the keyblade by testing his ability and maybe his heart. It makes sense. It just doesn't fit with Roxas said with 'he'. If someone could go to the video and translate the captions, it might help!

haha tbh that's part of why i think that way!!! because roxas is angry and not thinking straight and really it doesn't make any sense that diz would be the one ""chosing"" either of them but to roxas diz is like this awful man who kidnaps namine and freezes the town and tells roxas that he just needs to disappear and i think that could very well make roxas think that diz was pulling the strings for what happened to him and sora too??????? idk man i've always read it that way so

I don’t think roxas knows about ventus? Or.. Nah idk he could know because ven is inside sora and roxas is also kind of.. Inside him .. So maybe they met? He could also refer to riku imo, Omg i actually never thought about it so much

Hmm, I don't really see how/why Roxas could be referring to Ven? Hmm.
