Can someone please gif the slow motion leaping Doctor Dillamond in the Popular Song Wicked music video
So yesterday was the 10th...
Wicked is now officially 10. It's wonderful, really, and I know I've been posting crap all of yesterday, but this will be my last little bit; just my little emotional tale of how I got into Wicked.
It was 5th grade for me. My school put on a talent show every year just for the fifth graders and the entire school would attend. So, this one year, a couple of girls got on stage, one in a black skirt and one in a pink skirt, and they started to sing this really catchy song. I really liked it, and I loved the voice of the girl in the black. My music director told me the song was from show I'd heard of, only because of that one song 'Popular', 'Wicked.' I thought that the music was great so I looked it up on iTunes and progressively began to fall in love with the songs.
I started belting all the lyrics in my basement and showcasing my performances to the mirror in my room. Every day I was looking to purchase new songs and learn new words. I looked up the plot online and began to recognize the characters. I found myself really connecting with Elphaba, the misunderstood Wicked Witch of the West. I thought that Idina Menzel had the most amazing voice and that her portrayal of the character was absolutely stunning. The show was starting to mean the world to me.
That was in 2009. I did not see the show until the spring of 2011 when it came to my state. By then, I knew every word, every song, every actor and every character. I was in love and Wicked, Elphaba, and the entire production was shaping my life in so many ways. It was my gateway musical and to this day has always been my favorite. I can honestly say I've never been so happy to love something so much.
Happy 10th to Wicked!
