Today’s subject matter: Shitty Wine and Cigarettes

I’ve wanted to be in a band since I can remember.  Hell, when I was playing saxophone I tried to get a band together. I was 10. It makes me happy now that I can finally say I am the drummer in a band called Meerkat Cherry with my best friend and front man guitar expert Pat.  Two days ago, we recorded our first ‘demo’ in a dug out under someone’s house. With books lining the ceiling, and vintage lamps and musical equipment everywhere, we felt like we were in a Sound City x hobbit hole earthy recording studio from the 1970′s. I’ve been playing with Pat for almost 4 years now. I’ve known the dude since I was 3. We’ve learnt a lot from one another. The dude is an absolute musical genius and he’s only 18 years old. Whenever Pat and I talk about the future of the band, he’ll say something like ‘let’s play in the city when we get a bit more of a following’ and to me, it sounds so strange. It astounds me that someday, other people, not just our friends and family, will listen to our music and actually like it. These people will come to see us perform, perhaps buy our merchandise, sing the words of the songs we’ve written. I don’t know why it’s so weird to think about, but... That’s our end goal I guess. To get as many people to like our music as possible. I want to make people happy through it. I want to help the world through our music. Use it to spread the word and end stigma. We’re going to change the world. And if we don’t, we’ll damn well try. Nothing can stop us. 

The song turned out wicked. We like to pump the bass in our songs, and this one is no different. The first song of many from Aussie band Meerkat Cherry.

Wiyoo by Ronika. Think Chaka Khan-meets-Madonna circa 1982. I can't believe this song never got big. The video is equally amazing. Aside from the wacky pinball machine beginning, it's completely made up of footage from a dance competition that had to have taken place in 1982 at the very latest. I think my favorite of the competitors is the guy in the Army uniform who comes on at 2:25. You can just feel the pure joy he has while dancing. It's a trip! The woman at 0:54 who's wearing that shiny 1985 Astronaut Barbie outfit is probably God. I'm thinking about building a religion around her. Seriously, this is such a fun, catchy song and really fun video!
