A fine mist of rain was eddying through the air and beneath the rather desecrated bus stop Peck had elected to take shelter beneath. Drifting through the gaps in the curved ' roof '. The rain shower was not dense enough to penetrate clothing, but copious enough to cling to the fine hair of his eyelashes and obscure his vision, and to form pockets of mist in the dark streets. It left the streets strangely illuminated, with the film of rain catching the light from the yellowed streetlamps as it cascaded down. Peck watched with great displeasure, his coat collar popped against the weather as he peered into the night. Little glistening beads of rain clung to the fabric of his upturned lapels.
This wasn't his stop either, his intention had been to catch the M16 off Second Avenue, but in an impulse he had ended up near FDR - where it had previously run. So, now he was stuck waiting for the weather to abate, hoping desperately that he wouldn't miss the next bus when he fled back in that direction.
When he had first stepped beneath the shelter, there had been no sign of anyone else waiting on this line, or loitering away from the rain. Which was odd for the city, but nothing Peck would complain about, the fewer potential run-ins with this city's unsavoury sort, the better. Though while his head had been turned to observe the road to his right, peering through the opaque sheen of rain, someone had also found their way beneath the bus stop. And as he turned back, Peck jolted, as his gaze caught sight of a woman now occupying the space. He hadn't heard her approach.
Peck's skin rippled with discomfort as he cast a sidelong look her way, a sense that he couldn't muster a reason for experiencing. It felt as though something profoundly unpleasant had occupied the air about him, leadening it. Still, he wasn't one to abscond manners.
❛ Good evening. ❜ His voice was guarded.
