The "Unholy Row" was not over the screening I went to five years ago at the Gulbekian but last week at Derby Cathedral. The Wicker Man is a great film. It's a gripping tale with thought provoking themes, but also adult content so not to everyone's taste, as the Derby controversy shows. Should it be shown in a church? As a parish priest I would be sensitive to the majority of my congregation and not just show any film. But we shouldn't ignore the sometimes harsh realities of life (the Old Testament doesn't!) so a well made film that makes you think (about paganism and Christianity in this case) is worth showing if it's right for the parish. What does my picture show us? 1. Yes I do keep all my old tickets (sad but true) 2. Mixing films and faith can still be controversial (but I'll carry on anyway 😉) Full BBC article here - https://tinyurl.com/ybc67jrp #bbc #wickernan #contoversy #filmsandfaith #pagan #pagans #paganism #christopherlee #edwardwoodward #derby #cathedral #derbycathedral #christians #planoly #faithandfilm #moviestagram #filmstagram #oldtestament (at The Gulbenkian) https://www.instagram.com/p/BnDVDfbn8ai/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1t4azu09n19iq
