Had a lovely meal out last night at the Buthay Inn Wickwar. It’s been a long while since I last ate in there. It’s changed hands a couple of time’s and along wit it the menu. I ordered a medium rare rump steak with all the trimmings. Odd admit I was a little apprehensive at first as the pub was completely empty when we arrived. Never a good sign especially for a Saturday night. The menu itself isn’t very exciting. Very small and unadventurous. The only thing worth taking a gamble on was the steak. Thankfully though it turned up well cooked, tasty and delicious. There was a bit of a wait which again puzzled me as we were the only four in the pub eating. Any way, the steak tasted great, the onion rings where delicious and the chips where tasty also. I did order a peppercorn sauce to accompany my steak. It wasn’t the best. Very watery and thin. Not much of a peppercorn taste to it so that was a bit of a let down. Other than that I couldn’t fault it. Dessert was in the form of a homemade apple pie with custard. That was very nice and not too heavy. I rounded off the meal perfectly. The menu is due to change in March so our waiter says. So I’ll definitely be back, but not until March. The young man who served us was very polite, efficient and extremely well mannered.
