Naid (pl: neidiau) -> a jump (enw/noun) Neidio -> to jump, skip, leap (berf/verb)
Kinda confusing, yn ddryslyd, but the noun and the verb use different words. Which is also why a verbnoun in Welsh is not what you think a verbnoun means based on experience with English!
Wnaeth hi neidio mewn ofn. "Cefais* fraw!", meddai hi. She jumped in fright. "You gave me a shock!**", she said.
Aethon ni naid bynji dros y penwythnos, roedd e'n hwyl iawn! We went bungee jumping over the weekend, it was a lot of fun!
Mae fe'n cystadlu yn y categori naid hir. He is competing in the longjump category.
*I am being dramatic here, the standard usage would be "ces i fraw", using the past tense of cael -> to get/receive. Per Wiktionary (fy ffrind gorau), cefais is "poetic use". It basically comes from more literary Welsh, but I once heard a songwriter use it to describe his shock at seeing seagulls (gwylanod) fly over his head, and I've loved the drama of it ever since.
** literally "I had a shock", but you know. This sounds more natural in English.
