i think that mabifica is a really interesting case study in fandom? because it pretty much started as a secondary ship mate to billdip and that was the way that it spread primarily, but the people who actually wanted mabifica FOR mabifica instead of as some spicy seasoning to the local ship that was pulled out of thin air so that they could have a Proper Two White Guys Slash Ship TM that was actually uh, a lot more messed up than normal.
the people who eventually decided that they wanted to ship mabifica FOR mabifica fucking HATED billdip! they were vehemently anti billdip, anti anti anti with all the behaviors that come along with that, which made it super difficult for the two groups to coexist in the same tags and things because technically, the billdips were there first, but the mabificas did not want them there or to have anything to do with their Good Pure Ship
i don’t know what to make of any of these observations, but they were interesting to think about again
