❃ = dancing with them . (at the christmas eve ball?)
he’s a bit hesitant and it shows in his tentative grip and his rather stiff posture. he’s not a terrible dancer — he’s well-versed enough, having read about all sorts of steps in his books — but were one to draw a first impression off him now, they might’ve thought otherwise.
it just seems strange to him, to be dancing with lady mary crawley, the crawley sister he feared the most. perhaps it was because it was she who mattered most to the man who he’d served and had hope to serve until the end of his days. ( valet to an earl — it seemed like a far-off dream now. ) yet it’s not surprise he doesn’t suit her as a dancing partner as her late husband did, bless the young sir’s soul.
he’s drifted off into his thoughts and well, no surprise he’s had a misstep and very nearly stumbles. “pardon, m'lady. I’m very sorry, I-I’m not sure what’s gotten into me.”
