Another old, traditional piece I did.
One of the greatest joys and honors for a paleoartist is to illustrate a new species for the press release. You are the first person to bring this animal back to life outside the minds of the researchers. In this case it was Wihenvenator, a large megalosaur from the Middle Jurassic of Germany. Formerly known as the "Monster of Minden".
I show it here in the environment it was found in, with evidence of lots of dead wood, big ammonites and marine crocodylomorphs all found near by.
work was really slow today so here's some dinos
I visited a museum for the first time in three years
and the coolest thing was that i got to meet a real celebrity in there:
Megalo(saur) Mania
Me and a friend are going to be doing some casual paleo-related presentations within the next month or so and they commissioned me to do some megalosaur pieces for theirs.
So here’s the head of Wiehenvenator, a male Dubreuillosaurus tending to it’s nest, and a more detailed speculative megalosaur nest.
I’m just going through and posting all my “Good” Paintings here to catch you all up
Name: Wiehenvenator is hungry for Seafood
Animals shown: Wiehenvenator albati, Metriorhynchus sp, Ammonoidea indet.
Original Description: Wiehenvenator joins the likes of other Ornatenton animals like Metriorhynchus in search for some delicious ammonites hiding amongst the sea floor. This inst the last swimming theropod I plan on doing, I really like drawing them and there aren't very many of them in paleoart right now, so I hope you enjoy!
Things I’d change now: This animal is WAY to thick to be a megalosaur, I should've made it much thinner. The legs are sprawled a little bit too much, and I dont think I’d make it THIS feathery next time around. The background looks muddy, and the bubbles aren't very good.

Selection of new dinosaurs announced in 2016.
There are a lot of cool dinosaur fossils from Germany. Plateosaurus, Archaeopteryx and I already drew Europasaurus. So here is a cool theropod from right around my turf: Wiehenvenator albati. I saw the skull fragments in the local museum and an amazing life restoration in Dinopark Münchenhagen. I love its square-ish head. I used a skeletal by britishpalaeontology for reference.
