Prepare to explore the captivating and unconventional world of Wife Carrying, a sport that challenges norms and embodies the spirit of unort
Do you know about World Wife-Carrying Championships? . .. . Yes, it's a contest where the participants can carry their wives or neighbours. The wife should be at least 17 years old and weight a minimum of 49 kilos. If the wife is lighter, she should carry an additional rucksack. The objective is for the male to carry the female through a special obstacle track in the fastest time. Several types of carrying may be practiced: either a classic piggyback, a fireman's carry (over the shoulder), or Estonian-style (wife upside-down on his back with her legs over the neck and shoulders). The first modern-day wife-carrying event was held in Finland in 1992 and foreign contestants were admitted in 1995. This event is now held annually in Sonkajärvi, Finland as the World Championship where the prize is the WIFE's WEIGHT IN BEER. Taisto Miettinen and Kristina Haapenen have won this for a record 6 times. He has been the oldest contestant, who has won World Championship in wife-carrying. Prizes were awarded to the first three couples to complete the race, as well as to the "most entertaining couple", the "best costume" and the "strongest carrier". Wife carrying contests have taken place in Australia, the United States, Hong Kong, India, Germany, the UK, and other parts of the world besides Finland and nearby Sweden, Estonia, and Latvia, and the sport has a category in the Guinness Book of Records. So, the important question is CAN YOU CARRY YOUR BURDEN, I MEAN YOUR WIFE? If you enjoyed this post then like, save, share, and comment. #Wifecarrying! #Husbands fight for glory as they carry their other halves along 1, 250ft route This year’s race was won by #JackMcKendrick, 23, and his wife Kirsty Jones, from North Wales, who have now secured a place at the #WifeCarryingWorldChampionships in #Finland in July. And they may stand a good chance of winning in the global contest, as it will be a mere 253 metres in length - a third shorter than the British course - and much flatter. The races are a Scandinavian tradition believed to be inspired by the Viking raiders who rampaged into northeast England 12 centuries ago, carrying away any (apparently) unwilling local woman. culled from #dailymail #riversstate #phcitytraffic #itsphc #stopthesootph #portharcourtcity #phcity #portharcourt #Lagos #abuja #Nigeria #westafrica #africa #world #regrann (at Port Harcourt)
Wife Carrying
Sports like Football, Basketball and Hockey are examples of popular sports that we love to watch on TV and cheer on in the arenas around the world. But there are also sports that are a little bit forgotten and don’t get that much attention. The reason for this is off course the unpopularity, but could it also have something to do with the craziness? An example of a crazy sport is wife carrying, it has its origin in Sonkajarvi, Finland, and it’s basically a competition in which male competitors race through an obstacle course, with their wives on their back. If you are competing in the annual North American Wife Carrying Championship, and are the lucky winner, you receive the traditional prize, which is: your wife’s weight in beer, five times her weight in cash and finally an entry to the World Championship in Finland.
This is way too crazy, says the Alpaca
