Rules: In a text post, list ten FICS that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” works, or even all the same pairing or fandom, just the fics that have touched you or that stuck with you somehow. Tag ten friends, including me, so I’ll see your list. Make sure you let your friends know you’ve tagged them!
i have been tagged by my favourite person tellytubs to do this fun challenge! I've been reading fic since I was 12, so... this is gonna be hard to narrow down to just ten.
1. Freezer Burn by domarzione (Marvel Cinematic Universe)
> incredibly in depth and full of plot, doesn't fall into the usual post-avengers cliches, focuses mainly on friendships, Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, and Natasha Romanoff, 421,988 words total (7 separate works), (much) later Natasha/Bucky, complete
2. Paris Burning by thecitysmith (Les Miserables)
> "In a world where cities are personified, the City of Paris has been missing for centuries, driven away by the horrors of war and the worst humanity has offered him." - absolutely stunning AU, 45k+ words, Enjolras/Grantaite, complete
3. Captain Fraudulent by Ellidfics (Marvel Cinematic Universe)
> beautifully meta fic, taking the perspective of how today's generation of 24hr news would interpret costumed superheroes, 133k+ words (2 in series), plot heavy, relationships take a backseat. complete (so far)
4. Art of the Reasoner by Tellytubby101 (Sherlock BBC)
> "A world in which Sherlock is an artist, not a detective. Though that doesn’t mean he can’t help solve crimes. AU." - a stunning story by the lovely lady who tagged me. It's been a few years, but I love it so much. 44k+ words, eventual John/Sherlock, complete
5. Love and Honour by DKNC (A Song of Ice and Fire)
> an ENORMOUSLY long fic based on the premise that Ned Stark isn't beheaded, and Catelyn Stark isn't killed at the Red Wedding. It's stunning and in depth, and fulfills my 'NO ONE DIES' GoT dreams. tw: rape, gore, murder, etc. (it's unabashedly Game of Thrones ok). 700k+ words, incomplete
6. Tin Soldiers by idrilka (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
> another meta fic focusing on how civilians and fans of Captain America react to the various events of the MCU - told in a social media format. 19k+ words, Steve/Bucky, Complete (a sequel is incomplete thus far)
7. that secret that we know (we don't know how to tell) by myownremedy (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
> "The one where Sam Wilson is dfab and the best man Steve Rogers has ever met." aka transman Sam. Really lovely. 16k+ words, warning for minor mentions of transphobia, dysphoria, and misgendering, complete
8. The First Day by little0bird (Harry Potter)
> The first year after the Battle of Hogwarts. I first read this when I was about 13, so it's been a while. I still remember it really fondly. 251k+ words, Harry/Ginny, Hermione/Ron, other pairings. complete
9. A Broken Soul by Pied Flycatcher (Harry Potter and His Dark Materials fusion)
> "What exactly is the nature of a soul? And when Lord Voldemort so willingly split his own soul in half, what damage did he do to himself?" oneshot, 4,826 words, complete
10. Strangers and Drakeshaugh by Northumbrian (Harry Potter
> "The locals in a sleepy corner of the Cheviot Hills are surprised to discover that they have new neighbours. Who are the strangers at Drakeshaugh?" The Potter family move to a home in a Muggle village, stirring up gossip in the small town. From the POV of a muggle woman within the town. 89k+ words, Harry/Ginny, incomplete
