While Lewis could've figured out that he was Wilbur's dad by virtue of Wilbur being Very Very Interested in getting his memory scanner to work (c'mon, Lewis, why'd he pick you? why this random grade school science fair? why your invention?), he would have never put the pieces together on his own bc his future didn't exist to him. not even in a suicidal way, he just can't imagine it existing at all
