They finally flew today!!!
It's been so hard to resist catching a few, they just keep running past me while I've been sitting here!!!

the nearby ant
This is Camponotus nearcticus the “lesser” black carpenter ant. True to her name, she was right nearby on my shirt. (I swear ants come up to me like they are attracted)

First sighting of the year for me!
Saw something cool today, two very distinctly different anthills right next to each other. The lighter orange-er dirt belonging to a P. imparis colony. I suspect this difference in dirt color is due to the depth at which they nest vs the depth of that other colony (I think Lasius?). I recall earlier this year when P. imparis was very active most of the nests I saw were this orange color!
Ants play an important role in cycling dirt like this. One of the many roles ants fill in nature!

Also neat to see them not really minding the proximity to one another.
Unknown ant drinking water in my bathroom sink.
Today was fairly warm and the freeze depth is currently showing 0-1in and sure enough! Ants!
I managed to find 2 P. imparis colonies moving some dirt and foraging.
And a Tetramorium colony doing a little dirt moving of their own.
Was hanging outside with my cats today and found an ant queen on my toe.
No clue the species, didn't know any flew in October
