Alex sat at the breakfast table, Jess using her hands to shovel down scrambled eggs and bacon, while Chris looked like a child with a tower of waffles slathered in maple syrup with a scoop of ice-cream on top.

"Morning." She said meekly, getting a grunt from Jess and a hearty morning from Chris as Jole set down a breakfast sausage and hash browns Infront of her.

"Morning, had an interesting conversation with Chris." Joel says with a smirk.

Chris swallows a mouthful. "I wish to date you."

Alex blushed. "I... Er, heard as much."

Chris tilts his head. "You agree, yes?"

Alex coughed as a coffee was passed to her. "I... I need to think about it, not a no, but not a yes... A maybe."

Chris nods. "I can wait, I am good at waiting, have waited many years to get my human form."

Jess looks up, a rash of bacon hanging from her mouth. "You to was born beast?" She asks.

Chris nods. "Ya, born a bear, raised a bear, turned human, now raised as human."

Jess grunted. "Easy?"

Chris shook his head. "Oh no, learning clothes, toilet, bathing... All took time."

Jess grumbled as sucked up her bacon rash.

Alex coughed. "So why should I date you?"

Chris turned to her. "I am strong, hardy, I know stuff you do not from study session last night.... And very huggable."

Alex blushed again.

Chris smiled. "Good date, ya?"

"Maybe." She muttered.

As you can see, despite being a year older, Caroline is the shorter due to being a runt.

Alex yawned... She slept on the couch.... Again, bad habit but it was still hard to transition from RV bed to real bed, it was just to soft... Speaking of soft, what the fuck was she hugging? Opening her eyes, she looked up into the sleeping form of a bear and promptly fell off the couch.

The bear slowly opened its eye and yawned before shifting into Chris. "Morning."

Alex was so fucking confused. "Did we fuck?" Was her first question.

"No, you complained you had nothing to hug, so I offered bear form and you fell asleep hugging me."

Alex took a deep breath. "Good good.... And you are here because?"

"Study session, school is out because of the wild fires, but no excuse to slack, you invited me over to help with history and natural sciences." He said.

It all came back to Alex, the late night study session, her collapsing on the couch, wanting her teddy bear but to tired to go upstairs, Chris offering his bear form.... Her face was red, they weren't even dating and she slept next to him... Did that make her a slut? No sex was needed for that.

Alex sighed. "I guess I owe you breakfast then..." She got up off the floor and sniffed herself. "Shower first, I smell like an animal."

She shuffled upstairs, swinging by her room to get fresh clothes when she spied Joel coming out of his room. "Had a late night guest did we?" He asked.

Alex threw up her hands. "No hanky panky happened, just good old fashion wholesome hugging."

He chuckles. "He's a good kid, just don't break his heart, his mother terrifies me." He said heading down stairs.

Alex blushed again a s she walks into the shower, washing the smell of bear off her... What was she and Chris? Boyfriend and Girlfriend? No, felt to early for that... But then romance movies built relationships off less than what they had... Her mind whirled as she washed, taking time with her hair, half a shaved head did not mean she let the other half go wild.

Fresh and clean, she walked down stairs, pausing as she heard Joel and Chris talk.

"So plans for my daughter?" Joel asked.

Chris looked thoughtful. "Date? See where it goes from there? I think she likes me."

Alex collapsed on the stairs, blushing hard, he liked her? As in "Like" liked her?

She sat there, zoning out from the rest of the conversation till Jess came down the stairs, kicking her lightly. "Move." The red head said.

Alex got to her feet, took a deep breath and headed down the rest of the stairs.

Yes I know Grandfather Thunder is an eight points totem merit, but fuck you, my story, my totems.... Not like White Wolf is gonna break down my door... Or Paradox Entertainment or what ever they are now.

Jess had finally recovered enought to seek her personal totem, she sat across from Long Strider as he muttered and threw sacred herbs into the fire, the rest of her family watching as the barrier between the real world and the Umbra thinned.

Jess was restless, she was a Garou of action, not waiting like her sister.

Long Strider spoke. "Clear your mind, it's easier to find your totem when you are at peace."

Easy for him to say, her blood roiled with the desire to explore, learn, be a better human... Or wolf. She gritted her teeth and tried clearing her mind when she saw it, silhouetted by lightning, a great bird.

There was a loud crack as lightning struck the fire from the blue, forming the momentary shape of a great bird before flickering away, the fire pit warped and twisted by the sudden bolt. Long Strider dusted himself off. "Your totem is a powerful one Jessica Miller, grandfather Thunder is picky in who he chooses to rep him in the mortal realm, but be warned, he demands you respect those that have earned it, not inherited power.... And he speaks quietly till needed, then lets loose a mighty roar."

Jess was still blinking the after image out of her eyes as she looked over, slightly dazed. "What?" She shouted and rubbed her ears, a dull ringing filling them.

Long Strider explained again, this time louder so Jess could hear him.

She blinked. "So.... Big lighting bird is my totem."

He sighed and nodded. "Grandfather Thunder is the Thunder Bird of myth, yes."

She nodded then gave a feral smile before throwing back her head and howling, from the forest edge, howles came back, despite abandoning her, her pack had come to watch this moment and they howled with respect.
