once you  trade allegiance  for  heresy,  there’s no amount of scrubbing or white-soaked bleach  &  anonymity that’ll keep paranoia from  EATING YOU ALIVE.  the commonwealth is the heart of hell on earth’s war-ravaged cesspit,  reinforced concrete and cast iron laid to ruin for long enough to lose oneself amidst the dregs of humanity.  mundane, harmless diegetic sound  &  movement weaves his own pitch-black shadows conspiring to spill his blood, all played out to the battle drum rasp of steel power armor scraping earth.  he lives, like everyone else does, with a finger on a trigger,  hand beneath his pillow, EYES WIDE OPEN and pulse hammering from ribcage to jaw.  tonight is no different,  the lamp he lights sparks mockery and spits macabre laughter in his face.  scarred fingers seared with a lifetime’s vault of worthless lessons clench around his leaver-action.
