Dream Journal 2019-01-28: Puttin’ Up Office Decorations
My office got renovated at the start of this dream and even though it’s not officially in my job scope, my employment contract has the dreaded “other duties as assigned” clause. So at the start of my dreamland work day, I was asked to put up some artwork in the office.
As you would expect from a corporate environment, none of the art was particularly provocative (emotionally or otherwise). It was mostly paintings of landscapes that look nice and then fade into the background. Since I have a good eye for these things, hanging artwork on the walls was one of few “additional duties as assigned” that I really enjoyed (though I also enjoyed having an excuse to avoid my normal duties).
Some interior decorator had dropped off a bunch of potential art for us to hang, and I was happy trying to figure out pleasing places to display it. But amongst the pile of paintings in gilded frames, I found a really cool wire sculpture of a swan. It was flat and angular with a decidedly minimalist industrial feel to it AND LET ME TELL YOU: I SURE DID LIKE THAT SCULPTURE.
I think it was originally supposed to be a piece of decoration for the lobby that sat on a pedestal, but I was like “nah, I’m nailing this thing to the wall and I know the perfect spot for it.”
So I hung it up above a row of cubicles and it was one of the few pieces of art that was visible from anywhere in the office. AND I HOPE MY COWORKERS LIKED THAT SWAN, BECAUSE I’M NOT TAKING IT DOWN.
