Fairwil
I read the fourth and final instalment of the Wilfair series on New Year's Day and I'm finally writing about it!
The whole thing felt a bit breathless, like it was a headlong rush for the whole book. But it did leave me a little bit confused as to the passage of time. How could so many events fit in such a short time?!
Anyway, it was a very satisfying conclusion to the series. All of the characters seemed to either develop/learn/grow, or become better understood, and there is something really lovely about seeing a good-hearted person achieve what they want to achieve when that includes happiness and success for other people too. There was plenty of surreal stuff, and lots of humor, and some truly spectacular romantic gestures.
I love the implication that success and happiness is not a zero-sum game. All Fair wanted was to make everyone happy. At first, she thinks that in order to make her parents happy, she will have to make Monty and Gomery unhappy. And then there are all these other hotelier rivals. But she manages to make friends with everyone and make it work.

RIGHT? I mean it probably won't be a huge part but I'm super excited to see his name in the credits nonetheless!
Best of 2014: BOOKS
The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart - EVERYBODY PLEASE READ THIS BOOK. PLEASE. Then come talk to me about how much you and me and everyone we know loves Frankie.
A Corner of White by Jaclyn Moriarty - Words do not describe how much I love her Ashbury series, so naturally I was super excited to read this book. It took me a little while to get into, but the end ended up blowing my mind a bit and I blew through the sequel and am now anxiously awaiting the next book.
Wilfair by Alysia Gray Painter - The most incredibly delightful series; it gives me serious Pushing Daisies vibes (my favorite television show of all time) and I am currently savoring the 4th book in the series.
I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith - I saw both this and Wilfair in yesknopemaybe's 2013 book list last year, and I am incredibly thankful that I did, because I loved them both so, so much. I'm already planning to reread this book in 2015.
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon - I would be lying to you and to myself and to the world if I didn't admit these books basically sucked up my entire month of September. I blame blithers.
The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater - MAGIC and DOOMED ROMANCE I don't know what it is about these books and these characters but I am suddenly super into this series. INTO IT. Maaaaagic.
