Crossfit: Day 15 - Will-power
Today I want to be brief on the Crossfit part and spend a little time telling you about my new friend and inspiration, Chef Will. The WOD
21-18-15-12-9-6-...(I can't remember)
Wall Balls (8 lb ball for me)
Dead Lifts
Box Jumps(step-ups for me)
This needed to be completed within 18 minutes. It did not go well for me. I only got through round 2 and started back on wall balls for round 3. I may have gotten 5 wall ball reps in before time ran out. This was, by far, my worst day at Crossfit but the way I'm feeling from the workout tells me that my body did all it was capable of. Enough of that. I want to tell you about a man who inspires me to be incredible. I took a trip to Washington D.C. during the summer to visit my best friend, Chad. He and I did a lot of sightseeing and I even got to be a part of a Freemason gathering/anniversary that was a once in a lifetime experience. Chad kept telling me about his friend, Will Artley. Will is a chef in the Falls Church area at a restaurant called Pizzeria Orso. Up until this trip, I had only joked with Will online poking fun at Chad together via Facebook. Chad had set it up so we would be sitting at the Chef's counter at Orso and it went like this:
I ate some crazy, amazing food that night. Words really can't describe how great it was. The man deserves every award and honor bestowed upon him for creativity in this restaurant. When I got home, I kept seeing Will posting about his weight loss journey. He was doing so much stuff and it was present online numerous times daily. I had reached a lull in my motivation and seeing Will doing all the things I had tried so hard to do in 2011 was a stern reminder that I was failing again. Will's been a great motivator. As we talked online more, he would constantly tell me it was me that was inspiring him. I found that funny because my motivation and inspiration was coming from him. The final straw that brought me to make a commitment financially and physically to starting Crossfit was seeing Will add it to his routine. This is Will currently. He's a shadow of the man I met at Pizzeria Orso that night.
A few weeks ago, in this post (http://back2thebadass.tumblr.com/post/64770032978/crossfit-day-7-did-not-fail), I told you about how I envision Sean standing on one side of me saying things like "You got this. Own it." and pushing for another rep. At the time I wrote that post, I said I also envision a second person on my other side. Will has been that second person. He doesn't say much when I picture him there. He just stands there, arms folded expectantly watching. Sometimes when I'm failing to get another rep, I just see him raise up his eyebrows as if to question "Well? If I can do it, you can do it! So quit fucking around and push." I don't know that Will would actually use this kind of profanity but it's my made-up version of him in my head so I think he says what I'm thinking. Will is busting ass to train into becoming an IronMan. In case you don't know the details it's 140.6 miles of awesome broken out into a swim portion, bike portion and full marathon run. I had the honor of seeing my friend, James, complete an Ironman in the last possible minutes! It's a pretty incredible moment. You'll hear me screaming like a girl as I realize James is running to the finish with seconds to spare before the 17 hour cutoff. I wish Will as big of a moment! Finishing an Ironman is no joke. In my lifetime, I stand a better chance of being the Tony Stark kind of Iron-Man well before I'd even come close to being a triathlon kind of Ironman. You can follow Will's journey here by liking his Facebook page that chronicles his days that lead up to the event.
