Why I Love TVD So Much & Why the Ending Makes Sense
This goes without saying BUT if you have not watched TVD series finale, stop reading this & go watch. *SPOILERS AHEAD* I discovered The Vampire Diaries on Netflix when I was 15 & instantly fell in love with it. It's the first show that I felt really connected to. With the cast and even the storyline in a way. They vibed so well on & off screen that it made the show feel even more real. At first, I loved it because it felt new to me. A genre I hadn't explored yet because I never got into the "vampire craze." It was sexy and suspenseful & had a great love story. But as I kept watching I realized that the show is about so much more than vampires & a love triangle. It's about loss & grief & how to come back from something so painful. Its about coming into your own & realizing that changing as a person isn't always bad. It's about family & friendships & what mind blowing things people can sacrifice for their loved ones. But of course, we can't forget about the epic love story. Which is why I think the series finale is so tragically poetic. Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely heartbroken Stefan died & bawled my eyes out - but take a step back & think about it: Stefan came into Elena's life at the perfect time. She was still reeling over the death of her parents, in a pit of despair she thought she would never climb her way out of. But from the moment she bumped into Stefan, he made her feel alive again & taught/reminded her to live life to the fullest. And that, along with the bond of family is why the ending is so fitting. He turned Damon into a vampire, something he's held against himself ever since. It was the only solution that Stefan saw for the terrible situation in the end & I bet he couldn't think of a better way to atone for it - which is what he always wanted. He sacrificed himself so that his brother could live out his days with the love of his life. It just so happens that the person was also the love of his life at one point, who turned into a dear friend, someone who he helped in the worst time of her life. He helped Elena come alive, not just once but twice. And that my friends, is why the ending of The Vampire Diaries is so beautiful.
