Professor Eberly's January Term trip of 1976, "Geology and Ecology of the Southwest." Selections from the itinerary follow:
Jan. 6 - Leave North Manchester 6:00 a.m. Breakfast at Kokomo. SR 13 to 35, west to 31 at Kokomo. At Indianapolis west on 465 around to I-70. West to St. Louis, s.w. on I-44 to Springfield. Stay at Good Shepherd Church of the Brethren.
Jan. 9 - Go south on 277 to Lawton, then w. on 62 to Cache, visit Wichita Mt. National Wildlife Refuge (largest herd of wild buffalo and Texas longhorn).
Jan. 10 - South to Canyon, then see Palo Dura Canyon State Park. Back to I-40 then west to Albuquerque. Motel.
Jan. 12 - West on I-44, to Grants. S. on 53 to see Lava Flows, Ice Caves, El Morro National Monument. Then on to SR 32 and up to Gallup, west on I-40 to Holbrook. Motel.
Jan. 13 - Make loop back to see painted Desert and Petrified Forest Ntl. Park. Back on SR 180, then west on I-40 to Winslow, see Meteor Crater. Back to I-40 and on to Flagstaff and up to Page (if weather permits). Glen Canyon Dam (second largest dam in U.S.). Motel.
Jan. 15 - Mule trip down Grand Canyon to Phantom Lodge.
Jan. 16 - Back up to top of Grand Canyon. MAIL stop.
