A Taos "mountain man" known for fur trading and bootlegging, William is the brother of David Workman. Kit Carson had apprenticed for the Workman business in Missouri before heading west on the Santa Fe Trail. William was suspected of conspiring with the Texan Santa Fe Expedition.
