HEADCANON + chosen family vs family by blood

the old quote everyone knows "the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" very heavily applies. thor believes blood relation, the family you're born into, means nothing unless you choose to give it meaning. relatives happen by chance and you get no say in the matter. in the (previously) sacred timeline, sure hela is his sister but there is no love there whatsoever. the title means nothing to him. being upset with someone because of what their family has done (the first thing to spring to mind is clary fray of shadowhunters/tmi and people not trusting her because of who her bio father is ‐ which is stupid) is something he never has never will understand. the person in question didn't choose that, and we see him acknowledge that with gamora. what her dad did to him had nothinggggg to do with her, it would be foolish to act otherwise. and in the same vein, once he finds out his father's lies, he wouldn't people to look at him differently for things he didn't get a say in (at the same time, understands when he looks back on some interactions in hindsight because his behavior wasn't convincing). with all that said, thor is all about choosing who is close to him. let's be honest: the story doesn't end at realizing you love someone whether that's platonic, romantic, or otherwise. what follows is a series of choices. you have to choose to fight for it and make it the best you can, give it the care it deserves, every day. love, like blood family, is not something that simply happens to you. it's something you decide. and being chosen means so much more than just falling into someone's lap and now they're stuck with you.

which isn't to say he doesn't love his mother and father, of course he does, but..... thats a different conversation.

Of course he’s deliberately ignoring what she’s really saying, how she’s probably trying to gloat about having found him back on earth and among the mortals playing pretend. The thing is, that’s always been his M.O.. Unless she knows something he doesn’t—which he flatly refuses to believe—she’s just trying to pull focus. Just like always.
