Ely provides illustrations to this Dell adjacent The Hurricane Kids on the Lost Islands (Grosset & Dunlap, 1941) I recently found, with a story by Dell's own comics editor, Oskar Lebeck, and everyone's favorite: Gaylord Dubois.
J.R. Williams - no relation to Fantagraphics' J.R. Williams - was my uncle's favorite cartoonist, and well worth your time.
