KO’s Health Week!
So many new episodes of OK KO are on the air now! They’re coming so fast I can barely keep up! I love sharing the work I’ve done for this great show. KO’s Health Week has a lotta Classic Stevie and Classic Ryann. Wowow. And I got to design KO’s crayon drawings and handwriting! That’s always fun. Here are my original layouts, and the paintings by William Gibbons. And some insane screenshots.
Really enjoying the Riptide AU so far! It’ll be interesting to see what Gibbons will do with the program and as an antagonistic force to the Incredibles, and how Tony’s going to react given that he’s so fresh to being a super and acting on his powers. Also; “I can be fairly witty when I want to.” *glances up at your handle*
Thank you!! Riptide has been a surprising non-Coco palette cleanser that’s been a lot of fun to work on and keeping me loose.
Gibbons has also been a surprise, I thought he was just going to be a see-him-once character, but while writing the second chapter he suddenly appeared on the Parr’s doorstep with a huge amount of backstory and baggage that’s been delightful to see.
In fact, he’s become such a no-longer-side-character that I ended up drawing an old “photo” of him from back in the glory days:
William Gibbons, AKA “Blaze,” is pyrokinetic with the ability to generate flame. A firebender if you will. He always preferred to work alone since no one quite seemed to ever live up to his standards, but he would team up when it seemed logical. He’s very intelligent and has a lot of strong opinions about a lot of things. What makes him even more irritating is that he’s generally right.
He and Helen knew each other back when they were teenagers starting out on the Super scene and Helen always knew how to handle his overbearing personality with a smirk so they got along.
When she and Bob started dating though, Will laid out an entire presentation for her of why marrying Bob would be a mistake, which damaged their long-time friendship horribly. Will did not attend her wedding, she was hurt that he didn’t come, he was hurt that she hadn’t listened to him and married Bob anyway. (And it wasn’t a jealousy thing either, he wasn’t interested in dating her, he just legitimately thought her relationship was a terrible idea.)
Will also had a favorite personal crusade of trying to push the idea of Super registration on everyone because he saw the writing on the wall when public opinion began turning on the super community. He was always fine, but the fact that he didn’t feel like he could trust anyone else to perform well was intensely aggravating to him. Everyone passed him off as a doomsdayer though, ignoring his warnings.
He actually hung up his mask several months before the worst of the anti-super campaigning hit, riding out the PR waves from inside the government, netting himself a position incognito as a civilian. When Supers were made illegal he followed the law strictly, never exposing himself as an ex-super, but keeping very close tabs on everyone else.
He’s been working a long-term plan for over a decade now, and this time he’s made sure to gather enough cards up his sleeve to be able to trump any of the naysayers.
This time he’s not going to be talked over, this time he’s going to make sure the idiots don’t lead themselves off a cliff again.
This time he’s going to win.

Here are some master shots I drew and William Gibbons painted for CN City, from OK K.O.’s awesome Crossover Nexus special! This episode was crazy fun to draw! We had soooo much to cram in. Ian kept giving Daniella and I notes for more, specific show/promo/character references throughout the episode... and I’m glad audiences appreciated it!!!! I love this video from The Roundtable catching EVERY(!?) CN reference and easter egg. Did he catch them all? Maybe these will help!
I love these backgrounds from Bittersweet Rivals in the Point Prep Arc. Some very cool ones, but my favorite is the sunset painted by William Gibbons.

OK KO is on again!! A bunch of episodes have been coming out this month on the app and on TV. WHACKY JAXXXYZ is maybe my favorite episode ever so I wanted to post about it first. Here’s a perfect clip on YouTube. We need the Emmy:
I could just... repeat... line after line... from this episode. “What wolf?” “What fangs?” “What Tournament??!!?!?!” I love Johnny (”his deal: ?????”) and Nanini (”.... that’s nice.”) and as always, most of all, K.O. (”You know I can’t multitask. I only have one brain!”)
